Pickups that have good general condition can be improved or modified. Changing the number of windings and exchanging the magnets influence the resonant frequency and volume but also the dynamic and compressive behaviour of a pickup. Obviously, all other parts of the electronics (pots, capacitors, switches, cables, etc.) have a large impact on the sound quality of the instrument.
