WAXED OR NOWAXX   Unwaxed pickups have richer overtones, sound fatter and less held-back. In other words: You get more of everything. For many years I have been dealing with the manufacturing of guitar pickups and guitar players repeatedly confirm how positive their sound is affected by unwaxed pickups.

PHYSICS   In simple terms, potting in wax increases the frequency-dependent resistance, which affects the frequency response and overall sound quality of a pickup.

Wax, for our purpose, is a bad dielectric material (as with capacitors). With an increase in capacity the resonant frequency gets lower which has a negative impact on the overall frequency spectrum of the pickup. Furthermore, the higher weight and the elasticity of wax reduce mechanical vibrational characteristics of the pickup, which results in a reduced deployment of very desired overtones.

PAIN POINT - FEEDBACK   There lies the rub: Unwaxed pickups are prone to create feedback. That's the point where NOwaxx technology comes into play! Through a sophisticated System I managed to kill feedback without using wax. This process allows me to reduce the feedback as much as necessary and make my pickups suitable for the stage - without degrading the tone or dynamics.

HAND-MADE   All NOwaxx pickups are hand-made by myself in meticulous single-item production. The hand-lead winding method - insiders call this "scatterwound" - also has a positive effect on the pickups overtones. In order to keep that very high quality standard, I use only the best materials - so using vulcanised fibre for single coils and genuine white copper for humbucker caps goes without saying.

NOwaxx pickups - why?
